Fully waterproof

Epoxy-potted and sealed with no charging port and no buttons — the two places water usually gets in. Power on and off with a magnetic switch. Built for saltwater, sand, sun and impact.

Dual-solar assisted

Solar cells top up the battery through the day to extend autonomy between charges. In low-power modes under bright sun the panel offsets much of the draw, so the device keeps reporting for longer.

Wireless charging

Because the case is fully sealed, it charges wirelessly — drop it on a pad, no exposed contacts, no flap to fail. One less way for the ocean to get in.

The tracker trades battery for reporting frequency depending on the situation. Balanced is the everyday default; Live is for active sessions; Beacon and Sleep stretch autonomy for recovery and standby.

The tracker sends its position over the mobile network using its built-in SIM. That's what lets it work without your phone — but it also means the honest truth about range: no towers, no signal. Here's exactly where it works, and where the next generation fills the gap.

FILLING THE GAP · ON THE ROADMAP
LoRa local safety network

A future dual-radio device adds LoRa — a long-range, low-power radio that talks directly to a local base station on the beach instead of a cellular tower. That means coverage at spots with no mobile network at all, and reach further offshore, independent of the phone grid.

A school or remote spot runs its own SmartSurfTab base station; devices fall back to LoRa where cellular can't reach. Cellular stays the default where it works; LoRa fills the empty coast. This is a roadmap direction, not a current-product claim.

HOW IT'S DIFFERENT

Not an AirTag. Not a bike GPS. Not a DIY box.

Most trackers were built for cities, cars, or crowds. SmartSurf is built for the specific reality of water sports: empty water, offshore drift, salt, and the gap between "where" and "is the rider OK".

FAQ

Straight answers.

Is it really fully waterproof?

Yes. The electronics are epoxy-potted inside a sealed case with no charging port and no mechanical buttons — the two places water normally gets in. It powers on and off with a magnet and charges wirelessly, so nothing has to open. It's designed to be fully submersible in salt water.

Do I need my phone on the water?

No. The tracker has its own cellular connection and GPS. It reports directly — you don't carry a phone, and it doesn't rely on other people's phones nearby the way an AirTag does. A phone app is coming as an optional budget/backup rider mode.

How long does the battery last?

It depends on mode: roughly 7–8 h in Live, 10–15 h in Balanced (the default), ~30 h in Eco, ~2 days in Beacon, and ~4 days in Sleep, on the 1500 mAh cell. Dual-solar tops it up through the day. These are current measured figures before power optimization, which targets longer runtimes.

How does it charge?

Wirelessly — set it on a charging pad. There's no port or cover to wear out or leak. Solar assist extends the time between charges.

Where does it work, and what does connectivity cost?

It uses an embedded 1NCE IoT SIM: about $15 for 10 years across 150+ countries, including 500 MB of data. Coverage depends on local cellular networks. High-frequency Live mode uses more data, so it's meant for active sessions rather than running all day.

What happens if there's no signal?

The device buffers its fixes offline and sends them once it's back in coverage, so the track isn't lost. For remote spots without cellular, a future LoRa local network is on the roadmap.

Board or rider — which should I track?

One on the board recovers lost gear. The real safety value is a pair: one on the board, one on the rider, so the system can detect separation and know the person is safe — not just where the equipment drifted.

Is the SOS a rescue service?

No. SmartSurf is assistive safety technology. Manual SOS and alerts notify your trusted contacts, school, or an opt-in local safety network — it does not replace official rescue services, a leash, or required safety equipment.
