Everything the Tracker does — location, SOS, safety context — plus voice. One fully waterproof unit for the rider, so an instructor can reach a student on the water, and a student can call for help without carrying a phone.
Where this stands: four working Intercom prototypes have been built and tested — with GPS, SOS, wireless/solar charging and magnetic control. It is a near-term validated prototype line, not a finished product: the commercial version needs a low-heat communication module and sealed audio redesign before it ships. A tracker tells an instructor a student has stopped 400 m out. But the instructor still can't ask "are you OK?" or say "stay with your board, I'm coming." The Intercom closes that gap: the same safety device can also carry a voice.

The intended school configuration: a SmartSurf Tracker on the board for location and recovery, and a SmartSurf Intercom on the rider for location, SOS and voice. Paired, they give an instructor eyes and a voice on every student.
A normal speaker-and-mic struggles in water sports: wind noise, waves over the head, a sealed waterproof case muffling sound. The future direction moves the audio onto the body instead of into the air.
Sound is delivered through the cheekbone instead of a speaker in the ear, leaving the ears open to hear the environment — wind, waves, other riders. It works even with water around the ear and doesn't need a sealed speaker cavity.
A throat mic reads speech from vibrations in the neck rather than air, so it stays clear when wind and spray would drown out a normal microphone. Combined with bone conduction, a rider can talk and listen mid-session, hands-free.
Earlier epoxy-sealed intercom attempts proved the concept and exposed the real blockers: thermal management of the radio module and clear sealed-audio. Bone-conduction and throat-mic are the direction being explored to solve them — future roadmap, not a current product claim.
The same device that carries a voice is being designed to carry an AI assistant: reading Senlay's environmental context, spotting when a rider is at risk, and speaking a short, timely prompt — “wind's building, head in” — or escalating on its own. Location, voice, and AI reasoning in one sealed device.
