IN DEVELOPMENT · COMING SOON

The SmartSurf
Phone Safety App.

Your phone becomes the tracker — and because your hands are busy, you talk to it instead. Call your wife, reach your instructor, ask what the wind is doing, or trigger SOS, all through a headset without touching a screen.

This is where SmartSurf is heading — the app will be the main way most people start. The hardware Tracker is the reliability layer you add when a phone in a pocket isn't enough: on the board, in the water, all day, phone-free.

Where this stands: the app is in active development — not on the store yet. Everything on this page is the plan, not a shipped feature list. Right now my focus is the hardware Tracker; the app beta follows. Register interest and you'll hear when the first build is ready to test.

ONE REAL LOOP

Start a session. Come back safe. Someone knows either way.

Not another social feed or performance tracker. A digital safety system for the rider, their family, their instructor, and the school.

01 · BEFORE
Should you go out?

A pre-session brief for your sport, gear and level — conditions, sunset, connectivity, battery, spot risks.

02 · DURING
Phone as tracker

The session records your route and speed, a live map link lets trusted people see you're fine — and you run the whole thing by voice.

03 · IF IT GOES WRONG
SOS, hands-free

Trigger by voice or one tap. Trusted contacts get an alert and a live map. Never paywalled, and it works without the AI.

04 · AFTER
What happened

Track, speed, distance, duration, key events — and a safety timeline explaining what the system knew and why it warned you.

THE CORE SCENARIO · VOICE COPILOT

Your hands are on the bar. You talk instead.

On the water you can't hold a phone, unlock it, or tap a screen. So the app runs in the background through a Bluetooth headset, earpiece or intercom, and you just speak — call your wife, reach your instructor, tell the group you're heading in, ask what the wind is doing, or trigger SOS.

Anyone can sell a GPS box. Being able to talk to your own safety system mid-session is the part that doesn't exist yet — and it's what the whole app is built around.

REACH PEOPLE
"SmartSurf, call my wife."
"Connect me to the instructor."
"Tell the group I'm returning to shore."
"Send my location to my wife."
ASK THE WATER
"What is the wind doing?"
"Is the wind getting stronger?"
"How far am I from the beach?"
"Where is my board?"
SAFETY & STATUS
"Emergency. Activate SOS."
"I'm OK."
"Repeat the last warning."
"Battery, GPS and signal status."
THE QUESTION THAT MATTERS MOST
"Can I still make it back?"

You can already feel the wind and your own speed. What you can't calculate while sitting in the water is the return window — distance, drift, current, remaining daylight, and your own level combined. That's the Return Home Monitor, and it's the one answer only a system with real environmental context can give you.

Senlay environmental context

Spoken answer
"Current wind is 18 knots from the northeast. Gusts are increasing. Recommend staying closer to shore."

Fact → trend → what to do. Never a raw number dump.

Reaching a person
Voice request
Contact or group resolution
Confirmation where needed
Call or spoken message
Rider — "Call my wife."
Assistant — "Calling Anna. Confirm?"
Rider — "Yes."
Assistant — "Connecting."

Calls confirm to avoid mis-triggers. "I'm OK" and SOS never do.

SOS BY VOICE
No delay, no dependence on the AI.

Voice SOS is recognised locally on the phone — it works with no signal, no cloud, and no model. Because wind noise can cause false triggers, a voice-activated SOS opens a short spoken cancel window; a button or on-screen SOS fires instantly with no window at all.

Rider — "Emergency. Activate SOS."
Assistant — "SOS activated. Your position is being transmitted. Say cancel to stop."
Assistant — "Anna and your instructor have been alerted."
WORKS OFFLINE · ON THE PHONE
Local command core

SOS, calling a contact, "I'm OK", "repeat that", battery and GPS status. Recognised on-device, so they work with no coverage and no cloud — even in airplane mode.

NEEDS SIGNAL · CLOUD + SENLAY
Open conversation

"Is the wind getting stronger?", "Can I make it back?", free dialogue and explanation. If the cloud drops, this degrades away — the local core keeps running underneath.

Voice is in development and is the hardest part to get right — wind noise, wet hands, headset dropouts and battery all have to be solved in real field conditions. It follows the first app beta rather than blocking it, and ships only once command recognition holds up on the water.

PRE-SESSION BRIEF

One honest call, not a wall of numbers.

Weather apps give you numbers and leave the decision to you. The brief combines the live conditions with your sport, your gear and your skill level — then says go, caution, or no-go, and tells you what to watch.

GO

Matches your gear and level, data is trustworthy, hazards clear.

CAUTION

Rideable but something's moving — go smart, set limits.

NO-GO

Beyond safe margins for this spot, gear and level.

The context comes from Senlay, SmartSurf's physical-world layer — and the app always shows where a value came from and how fresh it is, so you can judge the judgement. Try that engine live →

THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU

Someone always knows you came back.

👥
Trusted contacts

Family or friends get a live link — they don't need the app to see you're fine. On an SOS they get alerted with your position, not a silent void.

🏫
Instructor link

An assigned instructor sees student status, sends a spoken message, or calls — and knows whether it was delivered, played, and acknowledged.

🤝
Crew & groups

Riding as a group? Ask where everyone is, send the whole crew one message, or hear if someone falls behind — all by voice, without stopping.

A rule I won't bend: SOS, messaging and core commands never depend on the AI. If the cloud or the model fails, the app degrades to a local safety core that still tracks and still sends an SOS. Safety can't have a single point of failure.

HOW IT ARRIVES

Staged, in the order that earns trust.

Each stage only ships once the one before it holds up in real field conditions — battery, GPS, message delivery, command recognition.

VOICE & SAFETY
Hands-free and smarter triggers
Always-listening voice, open dialogue, expanded safety triggers, calls, interruption handling, and instructor/crew voice flows — gated on field metrics from the beta.
HARDWARE PAIR
Phone on the rider, Tracker on the board
